Lake City Police Department Sgt. The Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that happened in O’Brien.  According to Independent Radio News, the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office is withholding the victim’s identity pending notification of next-of-kin.  Preliminary reports indicate the shooting happened at 4 a.m. Thursday.  The man was shot just above the left eye, (more)

The two men captured in Minnesota for the murder of a Suwannee County family are headed back to Suwannee County.  According to Independent Radio News, James Lindsey Howze and Lonnie Robert Munn waved their rights to challenge extradition and will be back in North Florida in the next five days.  (more)

One of two men arrested on charges related to burglarizing and burning down a Wellborn businesses was back in a Suwannee County Courtroom Thursday.  According to Independent Radio News, 18-year-old Shayne Russel Cooper-Olin’s attorney and the state’s prosecutor worked out a deal for six years in prison and 15 years probation.  The court turned down that deal.  (more)

County Road 245 (Price Creek Road) will be closed for nine months started Monday, Sept. 13 while the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) replaces the bridge over Olustee Creek at the Columbia/Union County line. The FDOT reports there will be a six-mile detour starting about 7 a.m. Sept. 13. Northbound traffic will be detoured to State Road 238 to U.S. 441 to C.R. 349 and back to C.R. 245.  Southbound traffic will be detoured to C.R. 349 to U.S. 441 (more)

A Lake City man is arrested after the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office found out the man’s victim was being treated at the Lake Shore Hospital Emergency Room.  The victim says he lives with his wife, children, father-in-law and Albert James Waters.  The victim says Waters came into his room while he was sleeping and hit him several times in the back with his fist.   According to the victim, Waters started yelling at him about the way his wife wears her makeup (more)

A Lake City man allegedly set his home on fire with his girlfriend inside, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.  Burton Beasley was arrested yesterday at 4 p.m. after he called 9-1-1 to report chest pains.  His girlfriend told deputies Beasley poured gasoline on the outside (more)
